Shoalhaven Riverbank Restoration

Creating greener futures by rehabilitating degraded areas, protecting local wildlife and their habitats, and enhancing the river’s ecosystem for long-term environmental sustainability.

Discover the Shoalhaven Project

ecoDynamics was engaged by Shoalhaven City Council to address significant erosion issues at Shoalhaven River, situated along Bundanon Estate. The project aimed to stabilise and rehabilitate the severely affected area, which had suffered considerable degradation due to erosion.

This project was particularly challenging due to its unique environmental challenges. The project site was not only home to active wombat populations, requiring careful consideration to protect their habitat, but was also in close proximity to the river. This proximity added an extra layer of complexity, needing careful management to prevent any negative impacts on the rivers ecosystem while implementing the stabilisatio9n and rehabilitation measures.

Scope of work

The ecoDynamics NSW Landscaping team was responsible for the clearing and removal of unwanted vegetation while ensuring the protection of designated trees and species. They also undertook  the construction of new batters along the riverbank.

These batters were regraded to a precise slope, with rock armour installed at their base for added stability. The surface was then covered with jute matting and topped with locally sourced much. Finally, native grasses were sown using a hydromulcher to promote vegetation growth.

Additionally, a drainage system was constructed to manage excess water runoff from the surrounding areas, addressing potential issues with water accumulation in the landscape.
