Brompton Gas Works Remediation

Project background

The Brompton Gasworks Remediation Project is a significant environmental initiative aimed at transforming a historically contaminated industrial site into a revitalised, safe, and sustainable space for future community development. Located in South Australia, the site was previously home to gas production facilities and required extensive remediation to prepare it for future residential and public use.

EnviroPacific, the head contractor for this large-scale environmental cleanup, engaged our ecoDynamics South Australian Landscaping team to support the revegetation component of the project. Our team was proud to contribute to this forward-thinking redevelopment effort, which aligns with broader goals of urban renewal and environmental stewardship.

  • Scope of work

As part of the environmental rehabilitation strategy, our team was responsible for:

    • Hydroseeding a total area of 46,247m2 using a carefully selected dryland seed mix designed to suit the local climate and soil conditions.
    • Coordinating closely with environmental consultants and project managers to ensure compliance with strict remediation and revegetation standards.
    • Implementing erosion control measures as part of the revegetation effort to stabilise soil and promote healthy plant establishment.

This large-scale hydroseeding task was executed efficiently and safely, supporting the transformation of the formerly industrial landscape into a green, thriving space.

Key concerns and challenges

  • Soil remediation compliance: Due to the site’s industrial legacy, strict protocols were required to ensure that all landscaping activities met environmental compliance standards.
  • Site accessibility and safety: Working on a remediation site presented logistical challenges, requiring our team to follow rigorous safety procedures and coordinate closely with other contractors.
  • Drought-resilient plant selection: The chosen dryland seed mix needed to ensure long-term sustainability with minimal irrigation, which required expert understanding of local ecosystems and plant species.

Outcomes and impact

The revegetation phase played a crucial role in the overall success of the Brompton Gasworks Remediation Project. Our hydroseeding work contributed to:

  • Stabilising the site and reducing dust and erosion during and after construction.
  • Establishing a base layer of vegetation that will support future landscaping and public space development.
  • Advancing the project’s vision of transforming a contaminated site into a vibrant, healthy environment suitable for future communities.

The project stands as a testament to our team’s ability to deliver high-quality, environmentally sensitive landscaping solutions on complex remediation sites.
