Kurnell & La Perouse Ferry Wharfs Landscaping Project

See how ecoDynamics NSW transformed the Kurnell and La Perouse Ferry Wharfs into natural extensions of the coastline—using native species, erosion control, and sustainable landscaping techniques that complement the environment.

About the Kurnell and La Perouse Ferry Wharfs landscaping project

ecoDynamics NSW Landscaping partnered with McConnell Dowell and Transport for NSW on the landscaping package for the La Perouse and Kurnell Ferry Wharfs project. The project focused on creating a sustainable, native landscape that complemented the coastal environment and offered long-term resilience with minimal maintenance.

This project was relatively straightforward in terms of scale and complexity. However, the primary goal was to deliver a sustainable landscape that harmonised with the natural setting of both wharfs. With no significant challenges during delivery, the works were completed efficiently and to a high standard.

  • Scope of work

Our team completed a full soft landscaping installation across both ferry wharf sites.

    • 80m³ premium garden soil in newly established beds
    • 15m³ mulch for moisture retention and weed suppression
    • Steel edging to define garden spaces and enhance structure
    • Turfing to create neat green spaces and soften high-traffic areas
    • 810 native trees, shrubs, and grasses endemic to the region installed:
      • Trees: Banksia integrifolia, Banksia ericifolia, Melaleuca armillaris
      • Shrubs: Correa alba, Hibbertia scandens, Westringia fruticosa
      • Grasses: Dianella caerulea, Ficinia nodosa, Lomandra longifolia.

Project highlights

A standout project feature was the freedom our NSW Landscaping team had in the garden bed design.

While specific plant quantities and types were provided, there was no fixed design to follow. This allowed our team to take a more creative approach, carefully considering plant placement to achieve a layout that feels both natural and intentional. The result is a polished yet organic landscape that blends seamlessly into the coastal surroundings.
