Northern Connector Landscaping Project

ecoDynamics SA Landscaping partnered with Lendlease to deliver large-scale revegetation for the $885M Northern Connector Project. Over 1 million native plants—95% grown from locally collected seed at our Penfield Gardens Nursery—were installed along the 15km corridor. With a 91% local procurement rate, the project set new benchmarks in sustainability, biodiversity, and support for SA businesses.

About the Northern Connector landscaping project

ecoDynamics SA Landscaping worked alongside head contractor Lendlease to help achieve a remarkable 91% local procurement rate for the $885M Northern Connector Project.

Delivered 1 million native plants

Spanning 15km, the Northern Connector is a major six-lane motorway north of Adelaide. As part of the project’s large-scale landscaping effort:

  • 900,000+ native trees, shrubs, and groundcovers were planted along the corridor
  • Over 95% of these were Indigenous to the region – grown from locally collected seed and propagated at our Nursery located in Penfield Gardens
  • Crews hand-planted approximately 30,000 plants per week, demonstrating precision and scale.

A local first: changing the spec to support SA business

The SA Department for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) previously used Belgian-made soil conditioner TerraCottem. ecoDynamics SA Landscaping successfully advocated for a specification change to Neutrog’s GOGO Juice – a SA product manufactured in Kanmantoo.

This marked the first time DPTI approved such a change on an infrastructure project, that resulted in:

  • 22,000 litres of GOGO Juice applied across all plantings
  • Direct support for local manufacturing and supply chains.

Eco-friendly and locally driven outcomes

  • 91% of total project procurement was spent with SA businesses
  • ecoDynamics Penfield Gardens Nursery grew all the trees in-house
  • Landscape design focused on local biodiversity, with seeds and cuttings sourced from regional remnant vegetation.

Our SA Landscaping team worked collaboratively with Lendlease on the Northwrn Connector Porject ensuring environmental goals were met without compromising scale or quality.
This landscaping project is a great example of how local knowledge, sustainable practices, and bold thinking can lead to exceptional community, ecosystem, and local industry outcomes.
