Port Wakefield Landscaping Project

ecoDynamics SA Landscaping partnered in the PW2PA Alliance to deliver the Port Wakefield landscaping upgrade, creating safer roads and more welcoming public spaces. Works included 70,000 plants, 50,000m² of garden beds, 260,000m² of hydromulching, and a new town park featuring lawn, furniture, decorative paving, and indigenous artwork—transforming Port Wakefield into both a transport hub and a community destination.

About the Port Wakefield landscaping project

The Port Wakefield Road is a vital route for SA that carryies 8,800+ vehicles daily which surges past 16,000 during holiday peaks. This heavy traffic, combined with conflicting movements, has caused frustrating delays.

The intersection of the Augusta Highway and Copper Coast Highway (north of Port Wakefield) is one of the state’s busiest regional junctions—linking Adelaide, Port Augusta, and the Yorke Peninsula on both national and regional networks.

Creating safer, more inviting spaces

As part of the Port Wakefield to Port Augusta (PW2PA) Alliance with CPB, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport engaged ecoDynamics SA Landscaping to deliver the project’s landscaping vision.

A key element of the upgrade was developing a regional dual carriageway through the Port Wakefield township—improving traffic flow while creating safer, more welcoming spaces for vehicles and pedestrians.

Designing an iconic destination

The Port Wakefield Project master plan set out to do more than just manage traffic – it aimed to turn the township into an iconic stopover that encouraged visitors to pause, explore, and appreciate its historic character. Our SA Landscaping team supported this goal by delivering landscaping works that included:

  • New southbound entry signage enhanced with decorative gravel and striking feature rock work
  • Creating inviting green spaces with lawn, custom furniture, and planter tanks
  • Decorative paving and indigenous artwork to reflect local culture and add visual interest.

The results didn’t go unnoticed. In 2020, local residents and visitors shared positive feedback about the improved park spaces—highlighting how the project improved transport efficiency and created a beautiful, functional community hub.
