Deer Park Level Crossing Removal Landscaping Project

About Deer Park Level Crossing Removal landscaping project

The Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) at Mt Derrimut Road, Deer Park was a key Victorian Government infrastructure initiative designed to boost safety, ease traffic congestion, and improve public transport accessibility in Melbourne’s growing western corridor.

Delivered by the Western Program Alliance, the project saw the rail line elevated over Mt Derrimut Road—removing one of Melbourne’s most dangerous and congested level crossings and creating safer, more reliable journeys for road users and commuters alike.

ecoDynamics’ role

ecoDynamics Vic Landscaping was engaged by Indigenous-owned business Yarra Contracting to deliver the soft landscaping component of the project. Our scope involved large-scale planting, establishment of rooftop garden beds, and extensive native revegetation works to complement the new transport infrastructure and improve the surrounding urban environment.

Scope of work

  • 159 semi-advanced trees installed
  • 0.7 hectares of native grass established
  • 2x rooftop garden beds constructed
  • 17,000 tubestock and 13,000 potted plants supplied and installed
  • 7,200m² garden beds installed.

The landscaping works commenced in August 2023 and were completed by February 2024. ecoDynamics is currently maintaining the site through to February 2026, ensuring successful plant establishment and long-term landscape resilience.

  • 2025 AILA VIC Excellence Award

ecoDynamics congratulates everyone involved in the Deer Park Station project for winning the 2025 AILA VIC Award of Excellence for Infrastructure.

This design not only connects communities but beautifully reflects the cultural values and landscape of the Western Plains and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country. It’s an outstanding example of turning functional infrastructure into meaningful, place-based design.

👏 Well done to the entire team on this well-deserved recognition.
