Fleurieu Aquatic Centre Landscaping Project
ecoDynamics SA Landscaping partnered with Kennett Builders to deliver the hard and soft landscaping for the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre in Victor Harbor. Featuring 2,600 m² of turf, 4,500 m² of irrigated garden beds, and 17,000 plants, alongside natural play spaces and stormwater bioswales, the project created a welcoming, family-friendly environment recognised with a Master Landscapers of SA Award nomination.
About the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre landscaping project
Located in the beautiful seaside town of Victor Harbor, the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre opened its doors on 25 March 2017, providing a vibrant new hub for recreation, fitness, and leisure to support the region’s growing population.
Head contractor Kennett Builders engaged our SA Landscaping team to deliver both the hard and soft landscaping elements of this landmark project, helping to shape the welcoming, accessible environment that surrounds the facility.
The $21 million Fleurieu Aquatic Centre development features lap, multi-use, and rehabilitation pools, an outdoor splash pad, fitness facilities, a café, and family-friendly BBQ and picnic areas.
Design inspired by culture
Fleurieu Aquatic Centre’s concept draws from the local Indigenous story of Kondili the whale.
In this narrative, four friends are attacked and retreat to the sea, transforming into four sea creatures. This story is reflected in the building’s design through four key spaces: the pool hall, warm water pool, community/multipurpose facilities, and the administration spine, each representing one of these creatures (Hames Sharley, 2018).
