Grange Road LCRP Landscaping Project
ecoDynamics VIC delivered a landscape for the Grange Road Level Crossing Removal that reflects community priorities—preserving greenery, boosting connectivity, and creating welcoming public spaces for Alphington residents.
About the Grange Road Level Crossing Removal landscaping project
ecoDynamics VIC Landscaping was proud to have played a key role in transforming the landscape around one of Melbourne’s most dangerous and congested level crossings—Grange Road, Alphington.
In late 2018, this notorious crossing was successfully removed, with the railway line lowered below road level. In partnership with the North West Program Alliance, our VIC Landscaping team helped deliver a landscape that now stands as a natural asset to the local community.
A community-inspired landscape
From the outset, community feedback shaped the design. Residents expressed a strong desire to:
- Preserve visual amenity and existing vegetation
- Enhance connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
We took this on board and delivered a thoughtful combination of hard and soft landscaping features across the site, including a brand-new public space at Ravenscourt Place.
-
Scope of works
Our scope included comprehensive construction and installation, such as:
- Supply and installation of native plants and trees
- Topsoil and drainage works
- Mulch supply and mulch/soil blowing
- Hydroseeding of large areas
- Rock embankments and exposed aggregate concrete pathways
- Stairways, decking, and anti-vehicle bollards
- Street furniture installation.
- This included extensive planting and upgrades along Wingrove Street, which now features improved walkability, safety, and green space.
Thanks to a highly coordinated team effort, practical completion was achieved ahead of schedule, providing immediate benefits to the 25,000 vehicles that pass through daily—with enhanced safety and reduced congestion.
