About the Hoddle Street greening landscape project
ecoDynamics VIC Landscaping completed greening improvements as part of the Major Roads Streamlining Hoddle Project. The team helped bring new life to one of Melbourne’s busiest and most iconic corridors. And we put our project management expertise to the test, working in a complex, high-traffic environment to enhance Hoddle Street’s appearance and environmental value.
Greening and collaborating
ecoDynamics VIC Landscaping partnered with Major Road Projects Victoria to deliver the Hoddle Street Greening Projects.
Hoddle Street carries around 330,000 vehicle movements per day and is a vital link between the Monash and Eastern Freeways. Upgrading the corridor presented significant challenges including the need to be carefully coordinated to minimise disruption and ensure safety in a live urban environment.

Indigenous plants
Hundreds of new trees and shrubs were selected to improve visual amenity while supporting local biodiversity and resilience. Our team installed new street trees along:
Hoddle Street
- The Eastern Freeway entrance ramp
- The freeway underpasses beneath the Hoddle Street bridge.
- We used locally appropriate, hardy native species to ensure that the new plantings would thrive in an urban environment. This also supported local wildlife and reduced maintenance costs over time. Key indigenous species installed included:
- Eucalyptus sideroxylon (Red Ironbark)
- Eucalyptus viminalis (Manna Gum)
- Acacia acinacea (Wreath Wattle)
- Westringia fruticosa (Native Rosemary)
- Leptospermum continentale (Prickly Tea-Tree).
