M80 Ring Road Upgrade Landscaping Project

From large-scale planting to erosion control and long-term maintenance, see how ecoDynamics helped transform the M80 Ring Road into a greener, more resilient corridor.

About the M80 Ring Road Upgrade landscaping project

From 2020 to 2022, the Victorian Government delivered a major upgrade to the M80 Ring Road – one of Melbourne’s busiest transport corridors. The improvements boosted traffic flow and safety from the Western Highway through to Plenty Road, adding new lanes, ramps, and bridges to streamline movement and reduce congestion.

Managed by CBP on behalf of the Department of Planning & Transport (DPT), ecoDynamics VIC Landscaping was proud to lead the landscaping package for this extensive project—specifically along the section from Sydney to Edgars Roads.

ecoDynamics role

Between June 2021 and May 2022, our team tackled the challenge of delivering planting, mulching, and hydroseeding across the upgraded corridor. With construction activities happening simultaneously, careful coordination was essential. Our crews often worked overnight to take advantage of reduced traffic volumes, ensuring safe site access and minimal disruption.

Care and maintenance

From June 2022 through to May 2024, our Vic Landscaping Maintenance team looked after the newly established landscapes along the M80. This work included regular watering, pruning, weed control, and health monitoring—ensuring strong plant growth, sustained aesthetic appeal, and real ecological benefits for the corridor.

This project is a testament to the VIC Landscaping team’s ability to deliver complex, large-scale landscaping solutions in live, high-traffic infrastructure environments—balancing safety, quality, and long-term sustainability every step of the way.

  • M80 Ring Road
    Full circle moment

    20 years later

The M80 landscaping project held special significance for our VIC Landscaping team. Just two years earlier, we had landscaped the same stretch of the M80, offering a unique chance to see our work mature and evolve. For Angus Curry our State Manager for Victoria, it was even more personal. Angus began his career at ecoDynamics on this very section 20 years ago, making this return a bit more meaningful.

Angus said, “Seeing the difference between the earlier works and the latest enhancements really brings the impact of landscaping to life. It’s not just about the immediate visual transformation—it’s about creating long-lasting environmental and community benefits. This evolution over time demonstrates our commitment to building and sustaining healthier, greener spaces for everyone.”

Scope of work

  • 62,000 plants installed
  • 58,000m2 of mulching applied
  • 40,000m2 of hydroseeding completed.

Commitment to greener futures

Integrated green infrastructure

We seamlessly incorporated green infrastructure into this major transport corridor, reducing environmental impact, enhancing visual appeal, and supporting biodiversity along the Ring Road.

Sustainable landscaping practices

Our extensive planting, mulching, and hydroseeding promote healthier ecosystems and greater landscape resilience. These efforts go beyond beautification—they help strengthen the local environment in line with sustainable development goals.
