Mitcham Bushland Restoration (Riverside Reserve)
About Mitcham Bushland Restoration Project
The Mitcham Bushland Restoration Project, delivered in partnership with Mitcham Council, is transforming Riverside Reserve into a healthy and resilient natural landscape.
Engaged for our proven expertise in woody weed removal and large-scale revegetation, ecoDynamics was tasked with removing invasive species and re-establishing native vegetation across challenging terrain — including steep batters and creeklines inaccessible by machinery.
Our approach
Working closely with landholders and community stakeholders, our team developed a sensitive removal strategy to minimise impact while ensuring long-term ecological recovery. Using a combination of cut and swab and drill and fill techniques, we safely removed approximately 93m³ of woody weeds, chipped and disposed of on site.
Once cleared, over 1,000 native plants—supplied by our own nursery—were installed with guards and stakes, supported by 93m³ of mulch to stabilise soil and promote healthy establishment.
Challenges and outcomes
The site’s steep slopes and creekline access presented significant logistical challenges, requiring all tree removals—some exceeding 40ft—to be performed without mechanical aid. Despite the demanding conditions, the project was completed incident-free, with exceptional environmental results.
The removal of invasive species has allowed native flora to reclaim the space, supporting biodiversity and improving the ecological health of Riverside Reserve for years to come.
Project insight
“It was an extremely physical project—removing 40ft trees by hand on steep terrain—but the results speak for themselves. The site has been completely revitalised, and native vegetation is now thriving.” — Daniel Chadwick, Project Manager
Impact
Through careful planning, skilled delivery, and ongoing maintenance, ecoDynamics has helped Mitcham Council create a greener, more resilient bushland reserve — a legacy of restoration that will continue to grow.
