ecoDynamics Achieves B Corp Certification: A Commitment to Endangered Native Plants

ecoDynamics is thrilled to share some exciting news: we’ve officially become B Corp Certified! This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to social and environmental responsibility, and it’s a big deal for us. As part of this journey, we’re all about creating new landscapes and rejuvenating the ones that need a little love. Our nurseries in Melbourne and Adelaide are at the heart of this mission, growing native plants, including some that are endangered.

You may have heard about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which emphasise the need to protect and restore our planet’s ecosystems. Target 15.5 is particularly important, calling for urgent action to tackle habitat degradation, stop biodiversity loss, and prevent threatened species from going extinct. At ecoDynamics, we’ve taken this to heart and made it a key focus of our operations.

We specialise in plants native to the Melbourne and Adelaide regions, supplying landscapers, catchment managers, and local councils with these essential species. We’re proud to be licensed to collect and propagate threatened species in both Victoria and South Australia, working hand in hand with state governments to protect and grow plant communities.
In Victoria, we hold a permit from the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action (DEECA) that allows us to collect seeds and cuttings from native plant populations. Every three years, we assess our needs and get permission to gather seeds from threatened populations.

Over the past three years, we’ve cultivated a whopping 79,764 plants that are classified as threatened species, strategically planting them to boost biodiversity and help combat the loss of these vital species.

Our South Australian Nursery has a similar setup, holding a Commercial Permit from the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) and the National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia (NPWSSA). This permit allows us to collect seeds and materials from various locations across the state, including roadsides and unallocated crown land, as well as from local councils’ reserves and parks.

We’re also super focused on preserving the genetic and clonal diversity of the indigenous plants we grow. This means we carefully monitor provenance – basically, where the plants come from, the type of soil they grow in, and the climate conditions they thrive in. It’s all about making sure our plants are suited to their specific sites, especially given the diverse nature of Australian native plants.

At ecoDynamics, our production system meets high standards through an independently audited ISO9001 quality management system. This means we can confidently assure our customers that the plants they receive have a verified provenance, from seed collection all the way to supply. We require our customers to plant indigenous species and show that they’re using plants suitable for their specific sites, and our nursery systems meticulously track seed provenance throughout the process.

We’re proud to align our efforts with the stringent guidelines outlined in the VicRoads 720 specification, which serves as the benchmark for major road projects in Victoria. These guidelines highlight the rigorous standards under which we grow our plants and reinforce our commitment to preserving and enhancing Australia’s unique biodiversity.

As a newly certified B Corp, ecoDynamics is excited to keep pushing forward in our mission of cultivating native plants while making a positive impact on the environment. Our dedication to endangered native species isn’t just part of what we do; it’s at the core of our vision for a sustainable future for everyone. Join us on this journey to create vibrant landscapes and protect the beautiful plants that call Australia home!
