This innovative project removed nine level crossings between Caulfield and Dandenong, and created 5 kilometres of new linear parks in the space where there were once only railway tracks.
Location Carnegie to Murumbeena Station, south east Melbourne
Project completion November 2018

Innovative landscape design creates a new public realm

Affectionately dubbed Skyrail, the elevation of the Caulfield to Dandenong railway line in Melbourne’s south-east has created an entirely new public realm.

In a space once dedicated to railway tracks, elevating the line has not only resulted in halving traffic congestion times, but has opened up 11 football fields worth of space as well as 17 kilometres of walking and cycling paths.

Hardscaping and softscaping skills prove pivotal

Ecodynamics were contracted to build sections 1B, 2 and 3 of the linear parks underneath Skyrail, creating vital new public spaces.

In total, our team built approximately 5 kilometres of new parklands, including the planting of indigenous seedlings and mature trees, hydroseeding, hardscaping and earthworks.
